Pop Bottle Carpets
P.E.T carpet is made with yarn
created from reclaimed polyester resins of two-liter soda bottles and
ketchup containers. Commonly called Pop Bottle Carpet, recycled P.E.T
(polyethylene terephthalate) polyester carpet is strong and
durable. The quality of polyester resins remain unchanged
throughout the recycling process. Its proven that recycled P.E.T has a higher
melting point and higher density than nylon which give the carpet many
superior characteristics. P.E.T carpets tend to be heavier,
thicker and more luxurious than regular nylon carpets.

Many carpet manufacturers are producing carpet made from recycled carpet and plastic, usually post-consumer P.E.T from used plastic soda bottles. About 50 2-liter bottles go into a square yard of carpet fiber. Carpets that are created using recycled materials perform the same as carpets created using virgin material often with the added benefits of increased stain resistance and improved indoor air quality as a result of less toxic off-gassing of volatile organic compounds. The manufacturing of recycled content carpet produces less emissions than ordinary carpet. Purchasing recycled-content carpeting is one way to help close the loop in manufacturing.
Recycled content carpet is comparably priced to and similarly available as conventional carpet. Buying recycled products is as important as recycling and knowing the extent of the recycling is worthy of checking into. Has the manufacturer saved resources in their process? How much content is production waste or consumer waste?
